Flowers can lift your spirits

Last Wednesday I was in Chelsea with a work colleague - we were busy looking at fabric and furniture and in a world of our own till we hit Sloane Square. I had completely forgotten that Chelsea Flower show was on and therefore had a real visual treat. I took a couple of pics on my phone that do not do these displays justice. They really lifted our spirits (and bizarrely made my feet less tired...) and fired us up for dinner and drinks (!)
I also couldn’t resist quickly ducking into Anthropologie – I so love that store. This time I came away empty-handed. Not that I didn’t want a whole stack of things, it was more to do with my de-cluttering and reducing experiment at the moment (oh and the building work in my home!)

Monday Inspiration {go back to bed}

I feel like someone didn’t tell me that today was cancelled whilst I was asleep. I’ve spent the day being let down by suppliers and waiting….. and waiting.
So I should have spent the day in bed and I think I would have liked the following bedrooms to bliss out in. Calm, bright and totally calming.... I'd have started on next months book club read and cuddled up with Milo with the sun streaming through the window.... sounds like bliss

Wednesday Wants {a trip to New Zealand}

I have a couple of reasons for craving a trip to New Zealand but that’s on the back burner, for a little while at least.  I have family on North Island living the dream of a life less hectic. The downside is that I don’t get to see my darling niece and nephew in person very often – thank goodness for Skype, it really is a lifeline. The very big plus side though is that I have an excuse (as if one was needed) to visit New Zealand.  It is such a truly gorgeous country.  So my Wednesday want is a lovely round trip *business* class ticket (not asking for much eh?) to New Zealand for early 2013 so I can take my new arrival (due late Summer 2012) out to meet his cousins.

Timeout Tuesday {living vicariously through Vogue Living}

One of the joys of reading blogs and interiors magazines is the opportunity to peak inside other people’s lives. In my mind I always have a Lloyd Grossman impersonation running “Who lives in a house like thuurrrrrrs?” (Ok I actually did it out loud).  I’m fascinated by who’s homes we’re seeing, what do they do, what are their lives like and usually does the sun shine a lot there? Imagine.
OK it probably means I’m naturally nosy but I do like a small large dose of vicarious living occasionally. Nothing wrong with my life (its lovely thank you) but reading mags/blogs reminds me of drama classes at school – lets play someone else for 45 minutes.

Monday Inspiration – so much to do so little time

How time flies when you’re having fun! It’s the final week of Brighton Festival but there is still some top-class entertainment to be enjoyed.
There are some really great things left to see and do from Circus Klezmer to Festival Ceilidh.  The  Lady Boys of Bangkok to Carmen or The Picture of Dorian Gray .Or maybe visiting the Artists open house event is more your thing

Today over at Hearthome {Vintage love}

I think that Vintage design adds personality and warmth to an interior. It tells a story and it’s lived a life before it landed in your living room/dining room/study etc.  I love the opportunity to acquire a one-off example of design, sometime rare and sometimes completely unknown. Vintage for some has become an investment and as such the prices are going up all the time. But if you keep focused there are bargains to be had out there – you just might need to get a little dirty and or wet in the process.
Today over a hearthome I share my reasons why you should add some vintage to your home.

Below some recent vintage finds:

Wednesday Wants {I kid you not}

I have some news that I haven’t shared here and today’s Wednesday Want really spills the beans.
So what I really really want is a Stokke Sleepi cot. I kid you not :)

Time out Tuesday is a belated Monday Inspiration

Oh dear it may have seemed that I disappeared forever BUT I have been on a well-earned holiday (also avoiding the builders and lack of wi-fi at home).  I’m now back in this pleasant rainy land (and the builders are still here) and I’m missing the 42 degree Celsius heat. Yes I did say 42°C. I was in the land of glistening towers and sand as far as the eye can see – Dubai.
This was my second trip to Dubai, I last visited in 2008 for work and the pace of change seems to have slowed slightly (pesky economy).  However you cannot miss the biggest change to the skyline the uber tower that is the Burj Khalifa (which was under construction when I was there last). Anyone with the slightest interest in architecture has to go up the amazingly quick lifts to the viewing platform, on the 124th floor no less.
So whilst I can hear rain against the window I am going to stay mentally in the warmth (I’m too pale to sunbathe but I do like to lounge like a lizard absorbing the warmth). So for now the below is my Inspiration - feel the heat.....

I’ll post later this week about the gorgeous hotel…..

Wednesday Wants {M.I.A}

So the reason I’ve been missing in action is due to no electricity or wi-fi for 2 days. For me this has been absolute hell. I tried to be brave and do chores that didn’t require these essentials but in the end I just gave up. I did manage to squeeze in some exercise and painting up some colour samples….. I even tried to keep “on top of the dust” building up, but I now have a truckload of things to catch up on. The reason for the self-imposed isolation – work on my own home has started. Yes the backbone to the “discussions” my DH’s and I had here and here are now underway.   Today the sanders are in, so more mess is on its way. Any sane person moves out but we’re going to mostly tough out the dust and chaos.
